Donaire says he has Montiel all figured out

MANILA, Philippines — Nonito Donaire, Jr. remains confident that he has Fernando Montiel’s numbers going into their much anticipated bantamweight showdown slated on February 19 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“You can’t teach old dog new tricks. He has tremendous power like he’s had for quite some time now,” said the 28-year-old Donaire, who carries a 25 win, 1-loss card that includes 17 victories via stoppage, as quoted in Mark Vester’s write-up posted at the Boxing Scene website. read more...

Donaire vs. Montiel: Fernando needs take on some of the bigger stars after this fight

By Dave Lahr: WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel defends his titles against Filipino Nonito Donaire on February 19th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. While this is a decent little fight that Montiel has with the 28-year-old Donaire, it’s not the kind of big money fight that Montiel needs and wants so that he can have a nice cushy retirement. For that to happen, Montiel needs to think big and go after some real stars like Juan Manuel Lopez or Yuriorkis Gamboa. read more...

Pacquiao Vs Mosley on May 7

MANILA, Philippines — For former world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley, fighting boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao is his chance to “shock the world”.

The 39-year-old American boxer said he want to disprove claims that he’s already past his peak by knocking out Pacquiao on May 7.

“It’s great. A lot of times, people, they see that I might look vulnerable, and that maybe, I look like I’m on my way out,” he said in Boxing Fanhouse.com. read more...

Arum moving Pacquiao to CBS/Showtime won’t change anything – Manny’s still fighting Mosley

By Chris Williams: It doesn’t really matter to me that Bob Arum has decided to move Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto and however many of his Top Rank stable fighters to CBS/Showtime away from HBO. The last time I checked, Pacquiao is still facing 39-year-old Shane Mosley and that is still an awful fight in my mind. Whether it’s shown on HBO or Showtime, it’s still a bad fight. It’s just a change of scenery, that’s all. read more...

Pacquiao’s Conqueror is at Jr. Welterweight

Manny Pacquiao currently sits atop the pound for pound list and will likely remain in the #1 spot until Floyd Mayweather decides whether he wants to be a full-time fighter or a security guard-beating bully. However, it could very well be the man who finally ends the reign of Pacquiao is not among the bigger guys at 147 or 154, but is currently doing battle below, in the stacked jr. welterweight division.

It’s no secret that one of the major keys to Pacquiao’s success above lightweight is his speed…and the bigger, slower the opponent, the easier time Manny has had.  read more ...

Sen. Harry Reid's payback: Bringing Congressman Pacquiao to President Obama

Congressman Manny Pacquiao is about to get some quid pro quo from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, the Democrat from Nevada.

I’ve learned that, when the Sugar Shane Mosley-Pacquiao May 7 bout press tour comes to Washington, in mid-February, chances are good that promoter Bob Arum’s close pal will payback a campaign favor to Pacman by arranging a White House visit/meeting/photo opp with none other than President Barack Obama. Read More...

Donaire wants to go for early kill vs Montiel

More than his stunning win over Vic Darchinyan four years ago, Nonito Donaire considers his coming 12-round title fight with Mexican Fernando Montiel as the one that will define his boxing career.

“I’m taking on a great champion and I’m going to prove where I stand in boxing,” vowed the soft-spoken former world flyweight champion during the formal announcement of his Feb. 19 championship bout with Montiel Monday in Las Vegas for the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight belts. read more...

Did De La Hoya Take a Shot at Mosley in Pacquiao Talk?

Over the weekend, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya took to his Twitter account to discuss his frustrations with being unable to make a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. “Sugar” Shane Mosley recently left Golden Boy in order to finalize a deal to face Pacquiao on May 7 in Las Vegas.

Since Mosley departed from Golden Boy, the former three division champion has been openly critical about the way Golden Boy managed his career and accused the promotional company of trying to sabotage his negotiations with Pacquiao by pushing very hard to make a third fight between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.  read more...

Donaire and Montiel Ready to Clash

Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire has been waiting for a big fight for a long time. Almost four years ago, huge underdog, Donaire stopped previously unbeaten and very popular Armenian champion, Vic "The Raging Bull" Darchinyan with a startling one punch left hook knock out. However, instead of meaningful money fights frustration and disappointment followed young star from Philippines. Disbelieving challenges ahead Nonito changed promoters. But even the best in the business Bob Arum of Top Rank could not accommodate the wishes of young star right away.  read more...

MANNY PACQUIAO IS BOXING’S ONLY GOD!

WHO CAN TOUCH THE GOD OF BOXING’S POPULARITY?

San Francisco, CA- Having gone to war in recent days with those that mandate abstinence (no sex) over sex education and condoms to prevent disease, I really am speechless to say in what has became an international argument. You see, they were questions, albeit “pointed” ones, directed at the undisputed king of boxing, Manny Pacquiao, who also happens to be a Philippine Congressman. Read more...
